artschoolglasses: Kelly Marie Tran(Jason Bell, Vogue) I'ma only say this one time. See him not the biggest star wars nerd. The first time I saw any of the movies was like two years ago. I liked them pretty well and everything but I’m not going to claim to be one of y'all high and mighty True Star Wars Fans™ by any stretch. But part of that is probably because to me it always looked like all the other action movies in a lot of ways. But then I saw Kelly Marie Tran turn up in this most recent one and I loved her. That’s partly because she is a great character who personifies the themes of the recent movie. But it’s also because she’s an Asian female doing something we don’t get to see a lot of Asian females do in Hollywood, which is to be an important part of the story without being sexualized or without it being some mystic martial arts thing. So I get that a lot of you white fanboys are like all mad that women and people of color are taking prominent roles in “your” movies, but it really moved me to see someone who looked kinda like me up there, advancing the plot. So maybe try to have a little empathy and give us a turn, huh (and while we’re at it let’s get some queer action up in there soon, right???)? -- source link
