cool-critters:Emperor gum moth (Opodiphthera eucalypti)The emperor gum moth is a species of moth in the family Saturniidae native to Australia. Caterpillars can usually be found on young adult leaves between October and March. The emperor gum moth does not feed after it emerges from the cocoon, relying solely on the energy it stored as a caterpillar. Their adult life span is limited to a couple of weeks in which they mate, lay eggs and die. This insect was the first used in the successful development of continuous insect cell cultures.photo credits: flagstaffotos.com.au, Fir0002, Chris Noble -- source link
