With the failure to indict another of the police officers involved in Freddie Gray’s murder, the criminal court system continues to fail to prosecute law enforcement officers for police killings. While some activists want to push for more of this type of justice, others are alarmed at the idea of placing hope in the criminal court system, a system that has always been stacked against people of color, poor people, and other marginalized people. Those activists want to push people to question what they consider justice and to move beyond punishment (in the form of criminal prosecutions and prison sentences) to accountability.
