Our first meeting was exciting, much anticipation. But suddenly, when standing behind then next to him as he turned to face me, there was this unexpected calm. A wordless, peaceful knowing. It rocked me deeply. It still calms me whenever I think of those first minutes. Frantic train station, secretly following him from several yards, watching his trench coated frame navigate the human tide. Approaching him from behind, while studying the side of his face, his sideburns, the shape of his head, the breadth of his shoulders, the heaviness of his pack.He stopped.I stopped and quietly said something near his year about following him until he stopped. Which I had done for a couple minutes. He turned after momentary pause, to his left and we briefly made eye contact. I saw his face quickly scan my body and jump back to my eyes. A brief smile, very small, under his mustache. We hugged. First one arm then two, and quickly softly pecked “hello.”Everytime I am with him “hello” feels as beautiful and right as that first time. And for all the challenges we have been given, and those yet to come, there is one thing I do not doubt, and that is Our Calm Together.Happy two years of US.-SmartSurrender -- source link
