thedailystyles: That the world has grown comfortable with the sight of Harry Styles with short hair can be attributed to the man behind his transformative cut, Anthony Turner. Last night, Styles stepped out with an abbreviated slick-back that looked just as at home on his head as his signature chest-grazing waves once did. But it wasn’t always this way. The way Turner tells it, when Styles first parted ways with his hair in April of this year, it was quite a shock. “His jaw dropped to the floor,” says Turner of the moment he lopped off Styles’s lengthy ponytail. Preparing for a role in the forthcoming World War II drama Dunkirk, Styles knew he’d have to lob off a significant amount of hair, so when he arrived in his hometown for a photo shoot, he was game to lose length. Though it didn’t stop the actual cut from being a dramatic moment—as well as a family affair. “His parents were there,” Turner recalls. “They own a pub in town.” Styles’s mother was quietly cheering on the transformation from a distance. “She was like, ‘Is that all you’re going to do?’ ” Turner remembers with a laugh. “She wanted him to be neatened up.” Once the initial shock had worn off, Styles “really got into it,” Turner says. The singer, he recalls, “he was very articulate and he knew what we were trying to achieve”; with Styles’s input, Turner even tailored the length of his ’60s-ish mop to make it more authentic. As the hair continues to evolve, Turner says that so long as they keep his hair in a rock ’n’ roll genre, Styles can pull it off. “He’s a cheeky quintessential Brit boy—an absolute pleasure to work with, which you don’t want to hear, but it’s true,” he says. From a shoulder-grazing shag to a Mick Jagger–esque mop and now the Elvis-worthy slick-back, with each iteration, Styles looks inexplicably more like himself. “Luckily,” Turner says, “Harry is a very handsome boy, so he can carry it.” Were truer words ever spoken? - VOGUE -- source link
