counterwiddershins: As I reread Balzac’s Père Goriot, I’ve been watching a 1972 adaptation of it on the INA’s Madelen service. The actor who plays Rastignac is, coincidentally (?), the same actor who plays Lucien in the 1975 adaptation of Splendeurs et misères des courtisanes. But what’s really interesting is the interpretation of Vautrin by Roger Jacquet. Rien à voir avec le jeu de Georges Géret in the ‘75 version. This one is more credibly a fighter, not quite a “jeune coq” but someone who still has both feet on the ground, and he’s very credible as both candid, opaque, and physically imposing. And his hair is, correctly, dyed dark! The adaptation makes a few cuts, I think, but it’s really well done! -- source link
