lovewashername:praisethelorde:falloutboy:when we were beginning the journey of making this record we wanted to find some inspirational images. we came across the punk and monk image on the Internet and it really solidified what we were trying to get across on the record- the idea of old and new clashing. tradition and change coming together. there was something striking about it. obviously this is an image that means a lot to many people- we felt like we wanted to be part of this conversation. these kids represent the youth, change and irreverence that we hope our record is listened to with. at the end of the day we just want to take the rules and start all over with save rock and roll anyway. shout out to Roger Stonehouse for capturing the original photo and allowing us to share it with the world Save Rock and Roll out April 15th and 16th worldwide, preorder here.i don’t know how to verbalise it but something feels wrong with this picture with their name on it.gurl i said the same thing. i saw in the side bar and i was like wtf, because i’ve seen that photo before WITH caption so…i don’t remember it exactly but i don’t like this imposing of what the picture is thought to mean in order to promote their message. like, they aren’t your tools to use. this language is real funny. talmbout save rock and roll…y’all probs been lookin in the wrong direction.suh-in ain’t right.I commented briefly back in November on Western misperceptions of this image. Westerners view it through a colonial lens and project their own orientalist stereotypes and racist misunderstandings of Asian culture and Buddhism onto an everyday scene in Burma. Do these punk assholes who are using it as an album cover know the names of these two individuals? Have the two of them been contacted for consent and compensation for the use of their faces on a commercial product? No? Typical white colonizer mentality on top of the cultural ignorance. -- source link
