galleryofunknowns:Hyacinthe Rigaud (b.1659 - d.1743), ‘Study of Hands’, oil on canvas, c.1715 - 1723, French, previously on display at the Musee Fabre, Montpellier, France; inv. no 49-6-1.The hand sketched in the upper right and the ringed hand in the lower left, are those found for example in the portraits of three bishops: René-François de Beauvau du Riveau in 1715, Charles de Saint-Albin in 1723 or Claude de Saint-Simon , in its engraved version, extrapolated from another prelate . The central hand (seen backwards), placed on the back of an armchair, recalls the hand of Gaspard de Gueidan in the drawing corresponding to the initial project. As for those, lower right, placed one on top of the other on a stick, they borrow the posture of the 1704 type and inaugurated in particular with the portrait of Vauban. (x) -- source link
