Sorry about the gem photos on what has mostly been an intermittent art outlet–I recently got a gem microscope and I’ve been having a lot of fun with it! These are a few photos of Pietersite, tigereye’s cooler cousin. Unlike the generally straight, parallel fibers of tigereye, the fibers in pietersite take on wild and unusual colors and forms. This one is mostly orange-red and the fibers formed as short, blocky parallel tufts rather than the broader, flowing lines seen in some others. This is a pretty classic formation for asbestos minerals, though fortunately it is rendered safe by being frozen inside quartz. -- source link
