lgbt-history-archive: “STOP ANTI-TRANSGENDER VIOLENCE” – “FOR THE UNKNOWN VICTIMS” – “CHANELLE PICKETT: NOV. 20, 1995,” premiere of “Boys Don’t Cry,” San Francisco, October 1999. Photo © Rink Foto. “Boys Don’t Cry” is the Oscar-winning film based on the life and brutal murder of Brandon Teena (December 12, 1972 - December 31, 1993), a trans man who would turn forty-four today. Chanelle Pickett, referenced by the demonstrator on the right, was a trans woman of color who was strangled to death at age twenty-three; her murderer, William Palmer, was convicted for simple assault and battery after pleading guilty and employing what is commonly referred to as the “trans panic” defense. He served two years. #lgbthistory #HavePrideInHistory #RinkFoto #TransLivesMatter #BrandonTeena (at Castro Theatre) -- source link
