frank-o-meter: Recently I made some posts about the cast of “Space 1999”. That got me thinking about how a modern retelling might look like. So I thought I’d do my own “casting” of the characters. For Commander Koenig and Dr. Russell I thought I go with another husband and wife team. I think both Daniel Craig and Rachel Weisz could breath some life into those characters. In general I kept the cast with the same race/country of origin as the originals but I thought the “Stars” needed a bit more racial diversity. The role of Professor Bergman was a good opportunity. I picked Laurence Fishburne but Morgan Freeman was a close second. Commission Simmonds would play a major role in the first film and Craig would need a good antagonist. How about Mads Mikklesen? The role of Maya was difficult to cast. It needs someone who can add an alienesque quality while still being relatable. Alicia Vikander was terrific as the humanlike robot in “Ex Machina” and she could handle the resident metamorph. For her father Mentor, I picked Brian Cox who has the same blustery style as Brian Blessed (although I considered Ian McKellan). In a movie they would be introduced early, before the moon left its orbit. For the Aussie Alan Carter how about Aussie Ryan Kwanten formerly of True Blood. For Sandra I picked Frieda Pinto. Here’s the entire cast: MOONBASE ALPHA * John Koenig - Daniel Craig * Helena Russell - Rachel Weisz * Dr. Bergman - Laurence Fishburne * Commissioner Simmonds - Mads Mikkelsen * Alan Carter - Ryan Kwanten * Sandra Benes - Frieda Pinto * Maya - Alicia Vikander * Mentor - Brian Cox * Tony Verdeschi - Giulio Berruti * Paul Morrow - Dan Stevens * David Kano - John Boyega * Tanya Aleksander - Diane Kruger * Yasko - Rinko Kikuchi * Bob Mathias - Anthony Mackie * Bill Fraser - Alex Russell * Alibe - Janelle Monáe -- source link
