harrisonstories: John Lennon, Estelle Bennett, George Harrison, and Nedra Talley during the final Beatles US tour (1966) “My mother toured with us everywhere. I remember when John and George [Harrison] were picking us up at the hotel to take us to dinner. They were so nice and polite, they said, ‘Mrs. Bennett, would you like to go to dinner with us?’ And my mother said, ‘Sure, let me get my purse!’ I almost had a heart attack! We were just at the age where we wanted to go out and have fun, and here’s mom with us!? No no no. You can’t go with us, mom! But we didn’t know how to say that, because I was still a kid. So we took her to dinner like good little girls, and of course John and George were so polite: ‘Ok, Mrs. Bennett, we’ll wait for you to get your purse.’ And I’m looking at them, ‘We wanna see England without mom!’ They got the picture, and so did my mom. After dinner she got a cab.” - People magazine (2017)“Oh, [John] was a darling. He showed me - he took me to Carnaby Street where they had the English boots for girls and T-boy shirts. And then at night he’d take me to the hottest nightclub - him and George Harrison ‘cause George Harrison was going out with my sister [Estelle] at the time. And we went to this place, it was called The Elephant Club, and George called up and asked my sister to come on and meet him down there. And I’ll never forget, we were sitting down at the club and they’re playing all these records and The Beatles, of course, didn’t know all the American records yet.I remember George and I were singing ‘Mockingbird,’ which was a big hit in the ‘60s, and ‘cause the guy would go mock and the girl would go king. And we did that all night. We look up and it’s daylight, you know, in the club. So we ran to George Harrison’s house to have breakfast. And you know what was strange (laughter)? George only had canned goods - ham and, you know, corn. I said, hey, let - yeah, then we finally went out to have a real breakfast, him and George and John and me and my sister.” - NPR (2016)- Ronnie Spector on spending time with John and George during The Ronettes’ first UK tour in early 1964 -- source link
