luciferlaughs: The 2009 Taconic State Parkway crash refers to a traffic collision that occurred shortly after 1:30 PM on July 26, 2009, in Mount Pleasant, New York. Diane Schuler and the passengers in her vehicle, including her daughter and three nieces, were killed upon colliding with an oncoming SUV, whose passengers were killed as well. Not only was it the worst fatal car crash to happen in the area, it was Diane’s strange behavior that drew so much attention to this case. For some unknown reason, Diane was travelling at speeds up to 85 mph on the highway after driving nearly two miles in the wrong direction at the time of the accident. The reason was made very obvious after the autopsy revealed she had a BAC of 0.19, which is equivalent to having ten drinks in her system. They also found high levels of THC in her blood. Except when she left the family campground that morning, she was stone sober. She was sober when she stopped at McDonald’s. And she was sober when she stopped at a gas station at 11 AM to obtain painkillers, as she was in severe pain due to an abscessed tooth. She came out empty-handed. Half an hour later, she called her brother to tell him she was being delayed by traffic. Only ten minutes after that, she was seen bent over the roadside, as if regurgitating. At around 1 PM, Diane’s brother received another phone call. But this time, it was from Diane’s niece, who claimed her aunt was having trouble speaking and seeing. Diane took the phone and confirmed the claim, saying she felt disoriented. Her brother instructed her to pull over and said he would come get her. Diane kept driving, though, and more than half an hour later, all passengers in the car were dead, except her son, who was the only sole survivor. However, he could not offer much information about what exactly happened that day except, ‘’Mommy’s head hurt, mommy couldn’t see.’’ Although the autopsy makes it pretty obvious that this is a classic case of drunk driving, the timeline doesn’t seem to add up. There was only a gap of 30 minutes between Diane behaving normally and suddenly exhibiting erratic behavior. Many questions arise: could she have gotten inebriated that fast? If so, why didn’t Diane understand why she couldn’t see? Why did she keep driving after her brother told her to stay put? Her family members refuse to believe Diane willingly put her and the children at risk, despite the autopsy’s results, and despite the fact that a broken vodka bottle was found among the wreckage. I truly believe at sometime during the drive, as she didn’t obtain the painkillers, she sneakily chugged the bottle of vodka (that was found empty in the backseat), as an attempt to medicate herself for the remainder of the drive, and thus became drunk and disoriented, like the autopsy had shown. -- source link
