whitelivesdontmatter: babyfairy: black-brat: pinklemonadelucozade: superselected: Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie: “Beyoncé’s type of feminism is not mine.” “Still, her type of feminism is not mine, as it is the kind that, at the same time, gives quite a lot of space to the necessity of men. I think men are lovely, but I don’t think that women should relate everything they do to men: did he hurt me, do I forgive him, did he put a ring on my finger? We women are so conditioned to relate everything to men.” “Put a group of women together and the conversation will eventually be about men. Put a group of men together and they will not talk about women at all, they will just talk about their own stuff. We women should spend about 20 percent of our time on men, because it’s fun, but otherwise we should also be talking about our own stuff.” You know, I really cannot stomach this. I have tremendous respect for Chimamanda, and I think she has a brilliant mind, but people criticizing Beyonce for how her feminism feels to them is so uninspired. She’s not another K*ty Perry or Tayl*r Swift out here just pretending to practice what they preach. She’s a black woman, whose main focus is supporting other black woman, and she doesn’t deserve to have criticism from racists and black women too. Lemonade isn’t about a man who didn’t call her back after a date. It’s about the hurt, anguish, and disrespect black women feel. Not just from men, but society in general. I’m sorry that her creating a very personal and in-depth album about her experience with her husband isn’t feminist enough for you, Chimamanda. Beyonce’s blackness, her child, her marriage, her pain - that’s her own stuff. To criticize her for speaking about HER OWN LIFE AND HER OWN HURT just because it was her husband that hurt her… Lazy. Very lazy. Can’t get with her on this one. why’d she even agree to be on flawless if she felt this way? lmao. i really dislike this weird mindset that women aren’t allowed to talk about the pain that men put them through, especially black women. it’s really disturbing to me that she thinks this way lol ^^^ -- source link
