Altansukh Purev’s and Narmandakh Sainjargal’s ger, photographed by David Levene.A ger is a large sturdy tent made of wood, felt, and canvas. It can be put up or taken down by four people in about an hour. Gers are used in Mongolia mainly by herders who move around frequently to help their animals find grass. Ulaanbaatar also has ger districts where former herders set up their tents on a more permanent basis. Herders move to Ulaanbaatar because they have lost their animals in a harsh winter (dzud) or to look for better education for their children. -- source link
