dr-archeville:ohgodhesloose:dr-archeville:oldschoolfrp:“The legendary tarrasque is possibly the most dreaded monster of all.” Essentially a kaiju for AD&D, it has 2-½ times Orcus’ hp (300 vs 120), plus the ability to regenerate from wounds far below zero. (Jim Holloway from the AD&D Monster Manual II, TSR, 1983.)For some reason, the first time I saw this entry – in 1983′s Monster Manual II – I thought the Tarrasque (whose name comes from a bison/turtle/dragon from southern France) was a tiny thing, no bigger than one of the critters from Gremlins. Despite the fact that its size it listed quite clearly in the stat block.Well the art doesn’t convey the scale of it very wellYeah, it’d definitely help if there was something in there to compare it to. Like in this image of the Tarrasque in the 3E and 3.5 Monster Manual:FLEE, TINY HUMANS!Even though its shape hasn’t changed that much, the old Tarrasque just comes across as spindly and tiny what with standing up on two legs in a way such a gargantuan creature shouldn’t be capable of unless its bones are literally iron.Though this is the Tarrasque so they probably are. -- source link
