hexandbalances: hexandbalances:I want to think of death as peaceful; that decay is a slow process of giving one’s body back to the earth. Good news, everyone. Something that came across my feed today (for once the algorithm accurately advertised to me) – the world’s first living coffin. And while I can’t say I’m excited about it, per se, it brought me a great feeling of joy. From the Dutch bio-tech company Loop, this cocoon is made from a network of mycelium and biodegradable material to feed it. The mycelium network recycles the organism in a way that is safe for the environment - taking into consideration the micro-plastics, lead, and other harmful chemicals we intake during our lifetime. The interior is lined with a soft bed of moss, and within 45 days the cocoon becomes a thriving part of nature. Read about it here. This gave me a sense of relief and meaning to an inevitable (though hopefully far, far away) part of my life-cycle. To think that my body will one day contribute to the healing of the planet rather than poisoning Her brings me a profound peace. -- source link
