I had never believed my best friend Mark Gates, when he usually bragged about the Headmistress not being a especially hard caner.He always said that his own mom’s punishments at home, were much more severe than at school but in my opinion, looking at his slim and quite young mother, I had never thought that such sweet woman, could be a harsh punisher in any way.My perception easily changed the day I was invited to Mark’s home to do a common project for the Science teacher. Our work went quite well, so we finished it before than expected and we were allowed to play for a while in the garden before my own mom’s picking me up. There was only a condition. - “Do not play football”, said Mrs. Gates.I could not explain exactly how, but about twenty minutes later, a ball entered into the living room through a broken window. Immediately she yelled out calling both of us, who rushed into the house to find her sitting on a stool and holding a weird wooden implement in her hand. I had never seen such a thing, but I soon guessed what was it intended for.Mark was right. Her mother is strict and that heavy paddle can hurt as bad as a cane. I was not able to sit down comfortable for days and the huge bruises lasted even longer.Fortunately, when my mother reached in front of the house, she made toot the horn and I quickly said goodbye and went out.
