Päivätär (‘Maiden of the Sun’) and her sister Kuutar (‘Maiden of the Moon’) were the goddesses of the Sun and Moon in Finnish mythology. Together they could be seen in the sky where they would knit their dresses made out of the Sun’s gold and the Moon’s silver.
