“Yu. A. Gagarin” Youth Center, Chisinau, Moldova. Built in 1972. MoldgiproGrajdanselstroi. ”Prometheus” mosaic: Aurel David © BACU The Youth Center was built in the central part of the city, with a wide and picturesque panorama over the former V. I. Lenin Park (now Valea Trandafirilor). The compact volumes grow asymmetrically on the sloped ground, making the most of the landform. The complex used to accommodate workshops, administrative offices, a hotel, a 800-seat events hall, a 400-seat theatre hall, a library and a cinema. The nucelus is the theatre, around which all other functions converge. The main façade is decorated by an enormous mosaic that adds to the compositional whole. Once a national objective, the former youth center turned into one of Moldova’s largest ruins. According to employees, the complex will be demolished to make place for houses. source: https://romd.socialistmodernism.com/index.php/2018/08/21/centrul-de-tineret-i-a-gagarin-chisinau/ https://www.instagram.com/p/CYeaePHMrjc/?utm_medium=tumblr -- source link
