Hiraeth Creature #1202 - Flojja“There are many sources of magic throughout Hiraeth. While mages draw from ley lines, many who came before them channeled primal magic, the raw elements that birthed Hiraeth into being. Among these practitioners are the witches of the world who strive to understand the primal arts, to be the most attuned to Hiraeth’s pulse. This study once took the witch covens down a dark path, which still haunts old folktales, giving witches an unsavoury reputation. In order to create, something must be given, and old coven witches often gave away their children, having them return as monsters. Those who were spared acted out against their parents and challenged their depraved rituals. Channeling raw primal magic, they made the Flojja. While not as vorpal or robust as their parents’ creations, the Flojja were affectionate and caring creatures, able to cleanse impure magics and promote healthy flora growth with their very presence. With enough Flojja sneakily placed into the waterways and underground, the younger witches slowly weakened the strangling grasp their forebears’ malevolent aura held on them, and were able to fight back in earnest. Though the old covens were dismantled, a few stragglers still haunt the marshlands, dancing as shadows when evening light begins to fade. The presence of Flojja is said to utterly repulse these wicked ghosts and many Flojja are happy to remain as friendly wards in witch-led communities. The two are forever in each others’ debt, and are proof that the bonds between creator and creation can be tempered with care rather than fear.“ -- source link
