Caption from the book Colour and design in macrame by Virginia Harvey.I’ve been reading several books to discover the history behind macrame and the technique I have adopted and adapted for the most recent work. The history of the art of macrame derived from sailors and doesn’t remotely relate to mental illness of course. But this passage in the above book listed the stages I went through in the design process of the work. It is very much an organic construction one that I worked with, within the form and created as I went in accordance to how the structure of the sculpture fell and formed in the space. Thinking about how the knot is structured, formed and multiplied to create shape and an abundance of mass is really visually very interesting. -- source link
