Code Begets Community: On Social and Technical Aspects of Managing a Virtual Community If you listen to my podcast then you’ll know I’ve been doing a deep dive on internet MUDs from the 80′s and early 90′s recently. Previously, Interactive fiction from the late 70′s.Last month I came across an amazing looking PHD thesis from a Swedish university from the year 2000.I reached out to its author Daniel Pargman on LinkedIn: 1. See if it was written in English 2. Ask them if I could have a PDF copy. The answer was yes, and no.No I couldn’t have a PDF as the only copies he had are bound in book form. But I could have a copy if I sent him my address, which I supplied. The thesis arrived in the mail this week and its incredible. I can’t wait to dive in. Daniel now works in climate futures, and we are going to have a call about my long time involvement as an admin on @solarpunks soon too.Anyways. despite how it feels sometimes, things like this remind me that the internet is in fact full of kind and generous people. I’m over the moon about having a copy of this book.Once i’ve read it, I’ll post a full review/overview on my blog. -- source link
