“My name is Ana Casian Lakos, and I believe that every citizen is entitled to the dignity of work, along with fair and appropriate compensation. Living wages are not only fundamental to maintaining a healthy, competitive economy, but also serve to promote a society invested in its own future. In order for people to care about their communities, they must regard their individual contributions as essential to it’s welfare and progress. This however becomes impossible, when one’s work is routinely disrespected, and dismissed as something "anyone can do,” like in the case of janitors, or other minimum wage workers. We owe a debt of gratitude to our janitors– as well as a decent paycheck, benefits, and vacation time. Anything less is inhumane, and an injustice.“ -- source link
