Blood Red Silk! Well, black cherry, and garnet. But BLOOD is much more suited to Red Death. I found a machine-made silk dupioni that is finer and more elegant than the traditional dupioni that’s a bit rougher. It still has the crispness of dupioni and the red-shot-black weave. I think it may be closer to the original costume. I’ve never seen machine made dupioni that’s 100% silk; only natural dupioni or polyester. So this is a nice find. While sometimes I adore the inconsistencies and slubs of natural silk, for this project, I think it will be improved by using a slightly lighter and smoother silk with the same draping/crisp characteristics of dupioni. The cape is double layer, so getting a light fabric to start with is quite important. Very minimal difference (except price - this more perfect dupioni costs more than handmade!) but one of the many things I consider when doing a costume for the 2nd time. Slight improvements here and there that aren’t very noticeable to the eye, but might be noticeable in weight/wearing a costume, or in different subtle ways. This type of detail work is what I think I’m best suited to. #reddeath https://www.instagram.com/p/BqsFZoOjays/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=kea2bd1nri5j -- source link
