elizabethnoir: hashtag-stripper-problems: aphrodites-euphoria: supplierofblue: “If a stripper changes her life she’s still a stripper. If a drug dealer changes his life he’s a business man, entrepreneur, etc…?”—Amber Rose Okay but this quote implies that it’s negative to be stripper and it’s something to get away from like drug dealing… The fuck? That’s her point though. Someone engaging in illegal activity, by choice or circumstance, is still viewed as “redeemable”. Yet, a stripper, who may be assumed to do illegal stuff but still has a legal job, is forever *tainted* and can’t get away from that label. It’s the virgin/whore idea. Drug dealers are assumed to be men and strippers are assumed to be women. But there’s a big difference between genders in stripping, too. Just compare Amber Rose with Channing Tatum. He’s a former stripper, yet is considered a performer, dancer, and actor. He went as far as being cast in a role as a stripper and gained MORE popularity (and in some ways respect). Amber Rose is an entrepreneur, mother, activist, public speaker, actress, and designer; yet she will forever be “the stripper”, or gold digger or slut. She’s not implying being a stripper is bad; she’s pointing out the discrepancy and stigma ^^^^ -- source link
