formerlyanon:cosmographia:iheldtoomanythings:mode-ampora:why is everything offensivemy girlfriend and i wanted to do senor and senorita karkat because we found this really pretty flamenco dress but apparently that is so racistdon’t you dare dress like a princess that’s soooo offensive to white europeans tumblr fuck you you get offended by fucking everythingshut the fuck up and live a little because jesus christ you’re going to get an ulcer from getting this worked up over shitmode mode I totally understandbut likedoes that make us offended over people being offended?Does that make me offended over someone being offended by people getting offended?I forgot what I was offended?I think as long as it isn’t meant as an insult it’s fine. *shrug* You’re not making fun of it, just dressing up as you want to. The stereotype would be acting like it, doing offensive things like taping your eyes if you want to be Asian, or talk with a bad Hispanic accent if you have a Mexican sombrero on, but celebrating it is the exact opposite. You can dress up as a Jibarito/a if you want to, and you won’t see me telling you what a horrible person you are. It keeps surprising me how so many people can be butthurt over the wrong things, really. The word “stereotype” is being used incorrectly here. I’m fine with being in a costume so long as it is accurate to the period. If it’s not, and is being used in an offensive way, then there is a problem. The only thing I agree with here is with the use of Native American and Roma (Gypsy) costumes. Many such articles of clothing are not accurate, do indeed perpetuate an actual stereotype (NOT the way you use the word in the graphic) and many of the articles of clothing in question are in fact held in religious regard by Native or Nomadic groups. Those ancient Greeks and Egyptians are always getting so offended! How dare we stereotype someone who died two thousand years ago, for shame. And I agree with formerlyanon.ETA I would like to point out the vast number of Irish guys who dress up like Saint Patrick for Halloween. -- source link
