Happy Easter, everyone! This message is good all year, not just for Easter.I adopted my bunny, Koi (the star of this photo), around 2 years ago. He was in the shelter with a lot of other rabbits - what I like to consider the Easter shelter spike. The lucky rabbits end up in shelters; other Easter bunnies get released into the wild, neglected, and at worst, end up living short lives.Koi took months of rehabilitation after I adopted him. Whoever owned him did not give him much attention, that much was obvious. He would hide in the corner of his cage when I went out to see him, was absolutely terrified of being picked up and held, and was underweight. Today, he runs to greet people when they walk by, is nice and plump (perhaps enjoys food TOO much, haha), and is great when being held and carried. It took a lot of time and patience to get him to trust people again, and I’m glad I could provide that for him. Please spread the word, not just for Easter, but for ALL year. Rabbits are not decorations or stuffed animals. They do not make good pets for young children when the responsibility is placed solely on the child. They ARE wonderful companions, though, don’t get me wrong - but they require time and love that many who get them do not provide. Do not get ANY pet on a whim. Think about it. Research it. Determine what you have time for in your life. You and the pet will be happier for it :)Happy Easter from Shelter Love & Koi, a previous shelter bunny who is now spoiled rotten <3 -- source link
