#Repost @piratecape ・・・ Flintlock muskets were popular among pirates and were used during sea battles. They were standard issue for armies during the Golden Age of Piracy. The muskets above are the “Brown Bess” muskets which were designed in 1722 but didn’t differ much from previous flintlock muskets. Muskets were pretty much the same until the late 1870’s when percussion cap weapons were introduced. An effective shooter could hit a target up to 200 yards while most shooters could accurately shoot about 70 yards. That is, if you can see through the wall of smoke these muskets created. They required about 30 seconds to reload as seen in the video above so they weren’t used much by boarding parties unless they had bayonets. A bayonet made a musket extremely effective in close quarters combat or you could use the butt as a club. https://www.instagram.com/p/Cb5EkZ6rHKy/?utm_medium=tumblr -- source link
