In Laddakh Every Single Sunrise is Magical ! 22 years since I was here last there has been a sea change in the landscape of Laddakh. Everywhere you look mud/clay houses are giving way to concrete buildings, there are traffic jams across the city and I think the saddest part is single use plastic taking over every single valley no matter how remote. Travelled 1800 Kms across Laddakh and Kashmir and never was there a stretch where we could not see the neon and green fizzy drinks bottles. It is just painful to see how the place has changed. There is hope however, there are people who still care, like the good people at @indusrivercamp who are making sure that your stay in Leh is sustainable, there are multiple NGOs working to reduce single use plastic entering into the environment. In the end the onus however lies most on travellers/ wanderers like us who claim that #Himalayasarecalling and we went to get #lehd to make sure that we keep the impact of our visit a to minimum if not positive. This place deserves a second chance . If you’re travelling to Leh/Himalayas/anywhere : 1. Try to reduce the use of single use plastic. 2. Try to travel light( will reduce the carbon footprint) 3. Respect the local culture and traditions. 4. Try public transport/pooling(if available)(I could not on this trip).
