rustbeltjessie:apprenticeofbottles: DIY Tarot Challenge, Day 2 - Dr. Dracula Who Makes You Get High! (The Magician) Jack Terricloth is The Magician of the Punk Rock Tarot, natch. I mean… He makes real whatever he imagines in his head merely by saying it aloud. Furthermore, The Magician is often represented by Mercury, and Mercury is the planet and god of smooth talkers and salesmen, clever with sleight of hand, and possibly ‘someone trying to sell you snake oil.’ Jack Terricloth is a smooth talker if ever there was one, and he might be trying to sell you snake oil but you’re gonna want that damn snake oil when he sells it. I made this card using Xerox/dot screen image manipulation, cut and paste collage, Wite-Out, and Sharpie. The photo of Jack that I used as the basis is by Rose Callahan. Much like in the traditional Magician card, I included the infinity symbol, as well as the symbol of each suit - Sharpies (Wands), Switchblades (Swords), 40 Ozs. (Cups), Records (Pentacles). The lyrics are from the World/Inferno Friendship Society song “Dr. Dracula Who Makes You Get High!” which is also where I got the name of the card. Note: I once read that if any card in the Tarot is the Tarot, it is the Magician. This makes Jack a triply appropriate choice, because, of all the musicians I have imagined in my deck, he is the only one I can think of whose songs often reference the tarot. I promise I won’t reblog every single one of my DIY Tarot Challenge cards. (Cos I’ll probably make a zine of them at the end of September.)
