THE HIDDEN PALACE OF BOLSENA @vesconteresidenza The idillic, lakeside town of Bolsena, famous for its pompous hydrangeas, hides the marvellous Palazzo Cozza-Caposavi in its oldest part. ⚜️Built in 1561 by a cardinal of the Farnese family, over the centuries it has welcomed travellers of all kinds, from European royal families to personalities such as Stendhal, Giovanni Verga, Guglielmo Marconi, Federico Fellini, two popes and, in more recent years, the artists Cy Twombly and Balthus, who restored some of the walls. There is an impressive library of over ten thousand volumes, from the 16th century to the present day, with books on travel, the territory, Italian and European heraldry and some curiosities including the first dictionary of the Italian language. Today the residence is open to visits by anyone who wishes to admire it and offers a B&B service.
