bogleech:revretch: sketches-and-such:While working on my firefly larva portrait, I visited the insect collections at UW Madison and did a few sketches. These lovely little ones have such interesting heads and mouthparts–they can telescope their necks outward to better reach prey like snails within their shells. (The top left sketch of the underside of the head depicts it with neck retracted.) And yes–some are that captivatingly pink! Telescope their necks?? Wow I notice a lot of people know what a trilobite beetle is because they went kind of viral online, but fewer people know firefly larva have almost all the same anatomy! -- source link
