Since there was a request for examples of each type (which I sort of meant to include but forgot, oops) : Active soaring wings: Think seabirds. Gulls, albatrosses. Passive soaring wings: Large birds of prey. Eagles, vultures. Elliptical wings: Generally small birds. Sparrows, crows, pheasants, but also forest-dwelling raptors. High-speed wings: Mix of prey and predator birds. Ranges from falcons to swifts to ducks. Hovering wings: Hummingbirds. :) -- source link
