It’s Quilt Month at the Holland Public Library Traveling through Michigan, I stopped at several public libraries where I got to enjoy the exhibitions put together by local quilting groups. You see there the Holland Public Library where they had a Quilter in Residence ready to answer questions and show off techniques. Of course, a display of quilting books had been organized right behind her. As a kid, we had a crazy quilt put together by one of my grandmothers, at a time when women used up all the pieces left over from their home dressmaking when quilting. Some women planned quilts from those pieces and others enjoyed the crazy look with many colors and textures. The Holland library has one of those old crazy quilts on display, while these modern quilts are a whole different enterprise offer. I have made a quilt in years, but these shows offer yet another way for a dressmaker to enjoy a play of colors. You see at top Monkey Business by Barb Bredemeier which takes the monkey puzzle or barrel of monkeys game as its inspiration and then has fun with it. Then you see a more traditional quilt with a star pattern called On a Whim which was pieced by Beth Wright and quilted by Marilyn Popplewell and makes me think of gingham skirts and summer dresses. And finally a harmony of golds, reds, and greens in the Suzani Quilt was designed Kaffe Fassett and made by Carol Vinneage. Check your own public library and see if they are celebrating National Quilt Month as well. -- source link
