WEEK 18This past week marked the start to our weekly design reviews with guests coming from all over the United States. Peter Gluck from Gluck+ out of New York City was the first to kick off these extremely helpful reviews that help guide us through these critical design decision phases! He gave us some great feedback that helped us with the explanation of the design and pushed us to make a decision on which screen to use.We started the week off by meeting with an Alabama Power representative on site to discuss the utility pole that is located in the North West corner of the site. We were informed that the pole can not be moved, there has to be a five foot radius clearance around it, and we can not build anything that can conduct electricity underneath the wires connected to the utility pole. After going back and forth between a short or long screen option for weeks, this made our decision easy! A short screen it is! This option has many advantages such as leaving room for parking, stairs up to the walkway, a garden bed, or another landscaped space. Three different screen types were shown to Peter Gluck, expanded metal panels, cables, and wire mesh. We experimented with how the vegetation would grow on each one. After the review, the wire mesh was discarded since we want to create apertures within the screen where users can interact with and use the openings as a ledge to pause and observe. We hope to choose the screen material this week while getting ready for our review with Dan Wheeler this Friday! -- source link
