For the past few years, I’ve been learning to cook Filipino dishes I grew up eating. Along with my comics, it’s been part of my process of “relearning” my Fil-Am identity. So far, I’ve made Tinola, Sinigang, Chicken Adobo, Pancit, and now Kare-Kare!Kare-Kare always seemed like an intimidating dish to make, especially because of the ingredients involved. My parents would eat Bagoong with it, and its strong smell and the hundreds of beady black eyes of baby crustaceans freaked me out. But I tried that too last night, and it was all delicious.
