No matter how much you trust someone, no matter how much you believe in their intent, the touch of a knife against your skin triggers something primal and overwhelming. Your whole attention goes there, no matter what else is going on or what else is on your mind. You cannot shift you attention from it - you may speak, you may act, but a huge amount of your mind is dedicated to sensing the exact movement of the knife, and trying to anticipate what may happen next. It’s one of the quickest ways I know of creating a completely altered state of consciousness. I’m really glad someone once put a knife against my skin - I’d never have understood exactly how much one can achieve with a blade without having had that particular experience. -- source link
