gayflagblog: gayflagblog: Gay Man Flag Many people are unhappy with the current popular proposed flag because of a variety of reasons (no meaning behind the stripes, seemed to be “lipstick lesbian but blue for boys instead of pink for girls”, etc.) so I decided to change the colors used and give all of the stripes an actual meaning. Stripe meanings were inspired by my personal research of LGBT history, my and others experiences as gay men, and the meanings on Gilbert Baker’s original rainbow flag (which I love dearly and hold close to my heart, this flag is not meant to replace or erase it in any way! I would love for them to be used in tandem). I’ve replaced the all blue of the old flag with a Teal Green-Blue-Indigo/Purple color scheme. Greens for Nature, Light Blue to represent love, and Indigo/Purple to represent diverse gender expression. This flag is inclusive of all gay men! This includes Aro, Questioning, NB, Ace, & Gay men that are Gender Non Conforming, be they masc or fem or androgynous or use Non-Gender Conforming pronouns! I am aware that leaving the white stripe may make people think it’s too similar to the lesbian flag and old proposed flag, but I kept it in purely because of the trans flag. At this point in time where the battle for trans rights is ongoing even in LGBT spaces it’s more important than ever to remember the crucial roles our trans and GNC family have played in building our history. I am a gay trans man myself so this stripe is very important to me. I’ve also made a simplified five stripe version for those who want a more printable/reproducible version or who simply want a less cluttered look than the seven stripe version. All of my flags are free to use for commercial and personal use, just please at least try to credit me so it’s meanings don’t get lost! I am open to well-intentioned suggestions for color tweaks, etc. from others! By request, I’ve also made two six-stripe variants for those who wanted to still use the flag for it’s meanings but didn’t want to use the 7-stripe or 5-stripe versions! I’m continually making improvements and edits based on feedback, so check the bottom of this post for a link to all of the flag’s variants! I am continually making new, improved versions of this flag!
