But turns out that the marens that were born from the eggs don’t have an impeccable obedience to Wizeman like their parents do. So in order for his army to be fully controlled Wizeman had to make this ability of nightmarens dormant and instead he was creating new 3rd level marens by himself But after Wizeman’s defeat the ability of 3rd levels to lay the eggs came back which also helped to avoid the possibility of marens going extinct -- source link
