Hiraeth Creature #1191 - Sornuvanc“Hiraeth lies at the intersection of many realms, creating weaving roads for wanderers to follow. Some of these realms are pinpricks into hidden abodes, while others are whole worlds that function beyond our senses. Many don’t think to look down past dirt and stone for a pathway, but Hiraeth’s Undercroft can be just as mysterious and esoteric as the Fae Realm.Navigating the Undercroft wilds is a more than daunting task, as caverns can twist for miles to a rhythm and reason only earthen spirits would understand. Lost kingdoms, abyssal forests, molten mountains, and even whole oceans can be found within the depths of the Undercroft, but reaching and leaving these places unscathed can seem like a mythical feat. Explorer’s guilds often employ tools and machines of steam, rallying together with the discipline of seasoned soldiers, knowing they may not see the Sun for weeks. Many don’t know there is a secret way to reach these depths– a much faster, albeit feral way. Every night, within glades and lakes buried shallow, one has the chance to spot a rare, armoured creature, known as a Sornuvanc. These bulky beasts travel close to the surface to indulge in the glances of Moonlight shining through ancient crags. They appear to be within a doldrum, crawling slower than a limp and groaning melancholy tones, but then suddenly, when morning comes, they vanish. Sornuvancs can move at speeds nearly unmatched when the Sun begins his flight, and a foolhardy adventurer could attempt to hitch a ride on their back if they so desired. Where they’ll end up is a roll of the dice, but Sornuvanc nests are beyond deep within the Undercroft, so it will be assuredly somewhere untouched by traveller’s boots.” -- source link
