Hiraeth Creature #1197 - Nojido“Up in the sky, bounding between cloud-drenched castles and outbursts of wind, is the Nojido. They live in fields of nimbus, trotting and kicking up puffs of cloud as if it were as solid as the ground below. This seems to be an active choice made by the Nojido, as they can run and leap upon the wind as well. Their haste cannot be overstated, as sometimes a leaping Nojido is mistaken for a shooting star dashing across day-lit skies. Though a mythical prospect in the current era, the old kingdoms of Hiraeth once commanded the skies through airships. Folk from kingdom to kingdom could visit each other in a timely and safer manner than going by road, but it was a costly affair not all could afford. Those of high society could even afford to buy luxury cruises to tour the known world. Nojido were common stowaways on these trips, often enchanting those aboard with their curious and whimsical displays. They were a tantalizing look of what life could be hiding over the clouds. It took many generations to build an airship strong enough to visit the flying islands, and what could have been an era of unprecedented discovery was dashed away with kingdom after kingdom falling to giants or dragons. All airships available were recommissioned as war vessels, and most didn’t return. Many are working on rebuilding this long lost art of sailing the skies. There are a handful of working vessels in the current era, but we are a long way from the old kingdom’s mastery. While the shattered ruins and the overgrown bones of great beasts dot the land, the Nojido remain as playful as ever. They are a reminder for us to move forward, and that there is merriment to be found after hardship.” -- source link
