Hiraeth Creature #1196 - Hifrafloa“Travellers near the fringes of the world ravine have sometimes noted a great light erupting from within it come nightfall. The Betwixt is known for all sorts of magical oddities brimming with colour, both in its flora and fauna, but this light is said to burst outwards and drift along the horizon, creating a strange, pink twilight that leaves once dawn arrives. This light of the Betwixt comes from the great glassy shell of the Hifrafloa, looking to attract prey. Floating through the air with tendrils swaying, the Hifrafloa is a dramatic sight to behold. As long as a warship, some would think to hide from this drifting behemoth, but the Hifrafloa only dines on the tiniest of morsels. As their light ignites the world around them, they draw out countless, tiny creatures from the crags of Betwixt. This swarm of aerial plankton is what the Hifrafloa seeks to summon for its meal. A flood of food also attracts many other of the Betwixt’s creatures, creating a parade of fauna not seen anywhere else in the world. Even monsters normally dangerous to travellers will join in on the festivities, the swarm of plankton holding some kind of magical allure all creatures wish to indulge in. Once the Sun begins to rise, the gala of beasts comes to an end, and the Hifrafloa’s shell loses its lustre. They descend through the sands of the Betwixt, resting deep below until the Moon Goddess returns again, and the feast can begin anew.” -- source link
