Successful Re-nesting Story Part 1 and Part 2 and Part 3Part 1: A Statesville, NC man cuts down a tree and to his surprise, it was the nest site for baby Eastern screech owls. He calls us. We ask if he would be able to construct a temporary nest site for them (they prefer cavities). He says, of course I can build them a nest box! He immediately builds the box, places the birds in it, and spends the next few days monitoring for parental care. Part 2: Eastern screech owl patient #21541 is a nestling that had been with us for 18 days. The bird was younger than the other 5 nestlings of his kind, so it was being housed alone. If ONLY we had an active nest site that the bird could join…Part 3: Eastern screech owl patient #21541 is added to the most perfect nest box in Statesville, NC! The bird now has siblings and will be raised in the wild by adults (that will need to catch once extra mouse each day for a while…). It’s a happy ending for everyone! -- source link
