Here is a little update on two of our more popular patients, Great horned Owl #21343 and Bald Eagle #21326:Patient #21343, or nestling #1 (and only, right now), is doing well. Betbait, her surrogate mother, has moved into the small enclosure and teaching the baby all things “great horned owl”. We are handling the baby as little as possible because the weight trend is perfect. The ultimate goal would be to find another local, active nest site where we could relocate the baby, but for now it is content with Betbait. Patient #21326 is a lot less laid back and content. We had been struggling to get her to eat on her own, but that problem has resolved - hopefully for good. She is in a large flight cage because the smaller enclosures were too stressful. Her blood lead level has decreased but is still elevated. The wounds are basically healed. The plan is to continue treating the lead toxicity and try to keep her calm during the process. -- source link
