Bald Eagle In honor of the winners of the Super Bowl, patient #21326 arrived at CRC this morning. Although unlike the football team, this bird didn’t win the fight. She was found in Chester County, SC and presented with injuries consistent with a territorial dispute. This is speculation, but based on the type of wounds and their location and the time of year, we are guessing that this is the injury cause. In addition to the soft tissue wounds on her head, keel, and leg, she is also suffering from lead toxicity. The lead toxicity may have contributed to the fight with another eagle or maybe she just had an accident from the lead. Regardless, she is not showing any obvious neuro signs from the elevated blood lead level.Although we do not know the bird’s sex, it is a large eagle so we suspect that it is a female. It is in good body condition, so these injuries are new.We will know more over the next few days. You can track her progress here. -- source link
