Hiraeth Creature #1199 - Tono-Toro“Off across eastern lands are the Firelands, where the breath of the Undercroft burns so hot it forces iron into flowing rivers. Surrounding estranged wilderness is the Pluming Forest, a frontier of trees tinged by flame, where fire streaks in beautiful arcs and cinders light up the nighttime shadows. No smoke blots the air, letting life flourish peacefully next to the eternal pyre. Over the years, bones and and ash feed the earth, from which Tono-Toro are born. A chaotic-looking amalgam of flora and fungi, Tono-Toro rise from the ground spitting embers and propelled by fire.Many explorers find them grotesque and incomprehensible at first glance, often avoiding their path but, in actuality, they are rather placid creatures. While capable of spewing destructive fire and whipping their appendages in a blinding flurry, they only direct this wrath at the command of fire spirits when defending their territory or if they are wronged first. Their diet is mainly fire-scarred bark, spicy moss, and scavenging, avoiding live meat unless it begins provoking them. They have been known to tunnel and sleep under places sacred to spirits, and will spring up from the ground if a malevolent force is felt or if an interloper is looking to steal away ancient artefacts. There are a surprising amount of abandoned shrines and temples littered around the Pluming Forest, though whatever culture embraced the glowing canopy and the ashen hills has been long lost to time.“ -- source link
