One of my favorite things as a webcomic reader is to periodically look back at past pages and see how much the art has gradually changed right before my eyes without me even realizing.I do the same for my wife’s comic too. Recently, I was admiring these coincidentally similarish panels from chapter 5 & chapter 11 and chapter 4 & chapter 16, and seeing what has changed between them.I still absolutely love the earlier panels, so this is in no way meant to dunk on them. But I know that over time, Rosy has been able to do the art for The Gifts of Darkness closer to how she would want it to be, especially in making the lineart more freely and the colors more painterly. She put a lot of energy into learning how she wanted to tackle folds of fabric and bricks in the wall. And I can definitely see that she’s gotten even more confident and skilled overall. Then there’s also the aspects of the characters that have changed. Adrien has clearly learned a great deal and it is evident in just the way he stands that he is so much more sure of himself. And Val has gotten more relaxed and somehow even more beautiful. -- source link
