Join us this Saturday, April 1st for Beyond the Blues on our favorite night, Target First Saturday, to celebrate National Poetry Month and our yearlong exhibition Infinite Blue with a free and vibrant evening of music, dance, literature, and more, to reflect on the spiritual and poetic inspirations of the color blue.We’ll start the evening in our Glass Pavilion at 5pm with a Happy Hour accompanied by indie soul blended with folk and Appalachian sounds brought to you by Martha Redbone Roots Project. At 5:30pm join us in our auditorium for the screening of Eva Hesse, a documentary about the life and work of this extraordinary artist. The artist’s sister and the film’s producer will be in conversation after the screening.At 6pm join our Lisa and Bernard Selz Senior Curator of Asian Art, Joan Cummins for a closer look at artworks made in Asia that are part of our exhibition Infinite Blue. Also at 6pm you can join artist Chloë Bass in our Sackler Center, Forum for a lecture performance. From 6pm-8pm create marbled paper using the Japanese “floating ink” technique by attending Hands-On Art in our Education studios. During this time you can also stop by the table of the Emerging Leaders of New York Arts in the museum’s lobby to support the NEA and join the #SaveTheNEA selfie campaign.At 7pm make sure to come upstairs to our American Galleries on the 5th Floor and join An Address of the Times, a reading by spoken word artists Heather Johnson, t’ai freedom ford, and Timothy DuWhite presented by writer and performer Pamela Sneed. Starting at this time you can also come to our Beaux-Arts Court to see fantastic performances by emerging dance companies brought to you by Brooklyn Dance Festival and then participate in a dance workshop. At 8:30pm attend the concert by Queen GodIs with Special Guests in our auditorium for excerpts of new and previous work.After a packed night let’s dance in the Glass Pavilion from 8pm-10pm with a performance by Geko Jones and Chiquita Brujita.
