notenpointe: My journey back into the world of Ballet… a little about my ballet past: ~ I too
notenpointe: My journey back into the world of Ballet… a little about my ballet past: ~ I took ballet classes from toddler to age 12 and was honestly naturally talented. Top of my class and constantly advancing. I picked things up very quickly, was dedicated and truly understood its seriousness and beauty. At a very young age, I ballet class held a high reverence, it was sacred, special and serious. It was a time to teach my body, push myself and find huge pride in the smallest achievements. It was not a time to giggle and jump about with the other girls. My hair was slicked up into a pristine bun-seriously there was not a free flying hair to be seen! (I actually won the ‘best bun’ -award every time ((how was that a thing?!)) My friends from school also attended the classes and thought of it as a thing we girls all did at this age. But not me. I really loved it. I wanted it. My teacher loved me I was about to start pointe- and then. Hip Hop classes were introduced. all my friends were leaving beautiful, graceful, elegant, quiet ballet -for loud ‘cool’ 90’s kidz hip hop, where we can dance to the backstreet boys and be loud and silly and wear baggy cooler clothes! So I, not one to be left out, (no! don’t do it! Stay strong! Be confident in yourself! keep doing what YOU love!) followed my friends into hip hop (hated it & was not good at all) and then, being too embarrassed of the time lost & the hormonal changes in my body, I quit dance entirely when high school started. BIGGEST REGRET OF MY LIFE (apart from quitting piano-but that’s the next venture for the future) So here I am. 24 and beginning my journey as an Adult Ballet student. I am under NO pretence that ANY of my skills are still present, my arch is GONE my hips are twisted. But I am determined. I LOVE ballet and I am going to love every step of this new journey! Am I ever going to be #onpoint probably not but here’s hoping! This warms my heart knowing that you found your way back to something you so dearly loved. Ballet is honestly the most physically tolling sport ever, but if you have the right attitude, and work ethic, you’ll be reaching heights you never expected. Natural Talent only gets you so far, and if you enjoy your craft, and the journey you take whilst perfecting it, you’re sure to become 100% better. -- source link
